I’m often asked how I got into User Experience and Interaction Design. It’s a long story that started with loving a challenge, and a realization that there is always a need to simplify, rethink and improve user experiences.
I started working in the field at a time when people used the term “Interactive Multimedia” and needed a computer science background to get the work done.
Luckily, opportunities were opening up – and with the help of networking with co-workers and friends, I managed to forge a path that included interactive training, language translation, consulting - and graduate school at NYU’s ITP program. I worked full time and as a consultant while completing my degree.
Next, I worked at two startups – and then landed in the advertising world in 2001. It was the first time my co-workers recognized the important role that user experience plays in developing and designing websites and products.
I have continued to learn and develop for different devices and platforms — and my experience continues to grow with every opportunity.
With so many changes in how we interact with technology – apps, voice, AI, simultaneous multi-device experiences – the need for a good user experience has only become more critical for the success of any business or venture. Luckily for me, I love challenges more than ever…
